Adat ini dipercayai secara turun temurun mampu memberi kesejahteraan dan kebahagiaan kepada individu yang direnjis. Pada dasarnya, adat tepung tawar dilihat sebagai upacara menabur beras kuning, bertih jagung, bunga rampai dan merenjis air wangi kepada orang yang diraikan (pengantin). Oleh itu, penelitian penyelidikan ini adalah untuk menganalisis makna simbol yang terkandung dalam pelaksanaan ritual adat tepung tawar yang dilaksanakan di sekitar daerah Petra Jaya, Sarawak. Kajian menggunakan pendekatan etnografi dengan pengkaji turut serta dalam adat yang dilaksanakan. Data diperoleh melalui temu bual etnografi bersama informan utama, iaitu mak andam, pengamal adat dan orang agama(iman dan kadi). Dengan itu, analisis data menjelaskan bahawa simbol yang digunakan dalam adat tepung tawar yang telah diterjemahkan menerusi aspek bahan yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaanya yang mana secara simboliknya membawa makna kekayaan(rezeki), kesucian, kecantikan, kesuburan, akhlak dan kebahagiaan.
